DAVID PUDNEY- DOUBLE BASS AND ELECTRIC BASS AND PIANO.
David began his musical career in a small band with the Morrison brothers in the late 70's playing piano first and then electric and double bass.A meeting with Don Burrows in 1981 saw him begin touring Australia with Don and James and later with George Golla in various small group settings led by Don. A scholarship to the Sydney Conservatorium in jazz studies saw him graduate with merit top of his year in 1984. David has played in many small bands since then with artists including Julian Lee,Kerrie Biddell,John Nicol,Bob Barnard,Judy Bailey,James Morrison,Mike Nock,Chuck Yates, and many more. David's recording credits include albums by Don Burrows,Bob Barnard,Ed Wilson,Grace Knight,Dorian Mode,Daryl Aberhardt,Ian Cooper,The Sydney All Stars Big Band,Kevin Hunt,wonderful jazz singers Sandie White andMarie Wilson, Tom Burlinson and more recently with brilliant Sydney saxophonist Adrian Cunningham,who has just released a new Combination CD/DVD rec orded live at the Soundlounge in Sydney’s Seymour Centre And local Newcastle pianist Terence Koo on his debut trio album.
David is currently playing with the Don Burrows Quartet,the Kevin Hunt Trio,the Marie Wilson Quartet,the Joy Mulligan Quartet ,the Adrian Cunningham Quartet,Newcastle group Saxanova,a recent stint with Galapagos Duck and various other casual engagements. David is also a regular member of the Sydney All Stars Big Band which has amongst other things,backed Tom Burlinson in his hit show "Frank,A Life In Song" for the last 8years. David is also currently working on a duo project with brilliant pianist Paul Mcnamara. David has been involved with the Yamaha School Band Festival as an adjudicator for the Last 10 years or so as well as guest adjudication appearances at Maitland and The City of Sydney Eisteddfod. David is also on staff at Avondale College teaching double bass ,electric bass and improvising,Wesley College in Sydney,teaching private students double bass and electric bass and running keyboard fundamentals classes,and more recently at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music teaching improvising in the Open Academy program.
