DR PAUL MARCH

Paul March has had wide experience as a teacher, adjudicator and examiner of speech and drama.  He has been secretary for the Australian Speech Communication Association Inc. for almost 30 years and has been active in syllabus design in speech and drama and also in adjudicating (including McDonald’s City of Sydney Performing Arts Challenge and Eisteddfods at Bathurst, Parramatta, Kogarah (St George), Nowra, Albury Wodonga, Gold Coast, Wollongong, Dubbo and Port Macquarie and examining in a variety of city and country centres in the eastern states of Australia.

Paul began his teaching career in primary education before moving into the tertiary field where he is currently a Senior Lecturer and Associate Director of the Centre for Research and Education in the Arts (UTS).  He teaches and researches in language arts, child drama and communication courses.  His post-doctoral research interests and publications have included explorations into the spoken and written registers of children in primary and secondary schools and in the semiotics of writing for children with particular emphasis on ideology and focalisation in children’s literature.

Paul has been very active in organising professional development seminars and conferences in the teaching of English and speech communication and has presented research papers at many national and overseas conferences.
